Context

Actions on Google is the platform that allows developers to build for the Google Assistant on Google Home, eligible Android phones, iPhones, and any other places the Assistant may be. At I/O, Google proposed a challenge for developers: build new & unique actions for the Assistant.

We were tasked with bringing the Challenge to life through a microsite and other launch assets aimed to spark creativity in these developers.

Actions on Google

Approach

Turn your inspiration into action.

We chose to get developers thinking about everyday moments or situations that might be inspiration for their actions. We created a hero graphic featuring Assistant-friendly devices front & center, but also a set of icons calling back to those different applicable situations.

In addition to the hero graphic, the site called for a secondary set of icons for the Challenge prizes.

Process

Along the way, I played around with a couple different visual directions that didn't quite land. Though scrapped in the end, they informed all of our decisions around treating the Assistant molecules, how we show devices and also the usage of photography vs illustrations & icons.
